Another World is Possible!
At the beginning of June 2007, the governments of the seven most important industrialised countries and Russia will meet for the ‘G8 Summit’ at the Baltic seaside resort of Heiligendamm. The ‘Group of 8’ (G8) is an institution without legitimacy. Nevertheless, as a self-appointed informal world government, they make decisions which affect the whole of humanity. The policies of the G8 stand for a neoliberal globalisation and deregulation, economic policies oriented towards the capital returns of international financial investors and companies.
- Every five seconds, a child dies somewhere in the world from hunger. More than 800 million people are chronically malnourished. Primarily responsible are unjust world trade policies, forwarded by the rich industrialised countries within the G8 and other international institutions.
- Despite the whole-hearted promises of the G8 Summit at Gleneagles in 2005, until now only a small proportion of the debt of Southern countries has been cancelled.
- Through their promotion of liberalisation and privatisation, the G8 have not only increased poverty in the global South, but also in the industrialised countries. The worldwide plundering of raw materials and other natural resources is being accelerated.
- At the same time as the rich industrialised countries seal themselves off from refugees and migrants, those who nevertheless arrive are illegalised and exploited as cheap labourers without rights.
- The G8 states are the biggest destroyers of the climate. They are alone responsible for 43% of worldwide CO2 emissions as well as being in favour of a renaissance of nuclear energy, which we decidedly reject.
- The G8 states are responsible for 90% of worldwide weapons exports and a new era of war for raw materials. They are the leaders of a world order based on war, which leads to migration, displacement, new hate and violence in many countries.
The world shaped by the dominance of the G8 is a world of war, hunger, social divisions, environmental destruction and barriers against migrants and refugees. At our mass demonstration on 2 June 2007 in Rostock, we want to protest against this and show the alternatives. Together with millions of people around the world we say: Another World Is Possible!
- For the immediate cancellation of illegitimate debt and comprehensive debt relief for the countries of the global South!
- Against the sale of public goods and services – for equal social rights and standards worldwide!
- For a speedy and radical transfer to renewable energies! Dangerous climate change and further wars for oil and gas reserves can only be prevented through a significant rise in energy efficiency and the transfer to a sustainable economy.
- For the immediate and permanent abandonment of nuclear energy and for complete worldwide nuclear disarmament!
- For the showing of solidarity with, and the living together with equal rights, of all people – against every form of racism and fascism!
- For the overcoming of walls and borders! Against detention camps and deportation!
- For a peaceful world! End the military imposition of economic and power-political interests through the G8 states!
Globalisation in the interests of the majority of people requires a fair relationship between industrialised and developing countries, and means freedom, justice, social security, democracy and the conservation of the planet’s natural resources for the next generation.
Such an alternative globalisation will not result from exclusive and insular summit meetings, but rather from below out of the global movement of people and initiatives who stand up for another, better world. This global movement will make itself heard through numerous actions and events during the G8 Summit. At the International Demonstration on 2 June 2007 in Rostock, we will make the size, strength and diversity of our colourful and broad protests visible.2007/05/05

不简单任务 Mission Amnesty
In recent months, the Selangor government have been so benevolent and generous that they have launched a concerted effort to legalize the 3165 illegal factories in Selangor. These factories have been given a one-year grace period to complete their legalization process.
• The 150,000 job opportunities offered by the factories;
• The contribution of factory products to the export market, earning RM3bil annually;
• The unwillingness of state government to close down the illegal factories, as this will create social problems;
• If the goverment enforces the law strictly, many investors will shift their investment to another country which will cause economic loss;
• In order to make Selangor a developed state, the government is aiming to have“zero illegal factories”.
The reasons for legalizing illegal factories sound reasonable but untenable, reflecting the simplistic approach of the state government and ruling elites to the pursuit of economic growth: “Let’s close one eye as long as it can make profit and increase productivity.”

Ijok, Ijok, no more jokes!
They are really rich. (no institutionalised allocations for Chinese and Tamil schools, my parents were paying our school-fees and the building costs of the chinese primary schools OURSELVES when I was young. But they allocated my parents' income tax to show their "generosity" during by-election.)
They are absolutely powerful. (they control all the media which can be accessed by people in kampungs and estates, the media wrote and broadcasted what they want.)
They are truly liars. (They spread the rumours saying that they can tell the votes: if we lose, you will get nothing. They buy votes. )
They claimed themselves god-believers but they are ghost-creators. (Phantom voters are everywhere. Only God knows where have those 107-year-old voters gone.)
They are terrorists. (They said: If we lose, May 13 will happen again.-- Look at those Mat Rempit, who dare to take risk?)
How about BN voters?
-Innocent
-Naive
-No access to free and fair media report before and during the by-election, and certainly not after that.
-Poor: Selling voter's rights for RM200
-"None of my business." (This is how they see: Injustice,Inequality, Tol-hike,Petrol-hike,corruption etc.)
-Unknown. (What are they made of? )
-
How about PKR voters?
-Brave
-Having certain level of awareness.
-Future Hope.
-Poor: Nobody care about their voices.(Tragedy of the Representative Democracy in Malaysia.)
-Another Malaysia is possible.
-They really want to see some changes.

After Machap by-election
It is a rural constituency which is the stronghold of ruling party BN. In the last ten days, We campaigned to tell people all kinds of problems within the government including the lack of transparency, no accountability, bad governance , suppression of freedom etc.
From the beginning, we actually knew that it is not easy to win, so we put our objective on gainning more votes. On the polling day, I saw vote-buying with my own eyes, I was sad because our voters sold their dignity for money, when opposition parties and civil societies are asserting hard for people's rights and better livelihood, I found that there are still a lot of people who do not care. Perhaps, they do not know.
Vote-buying is so disgusting that I suddenly realized we are still standing at the starting point of the "progressive development" , which is only pursuing high economic growth that measured by GDP , but showing no concerns and no action in the face of inequal social development and environmental degradation.
We went to lodge police report, their attitudes made me lost confidence, I doubt that our police force or election commission will take action on it.
When the results came out, I was stunned, we have only increased 167 votes compared to general election in 2004.
I actually see electoral democracy as a very primitive practice in the process towards a more democractic society. When politics is all about contesting with money, the true meaning of election have been distorted as a kind of human activities which is wasting limited resources.
Look at the leaflets, buntings, banners, flags, petrol for transportation, all kinds of natural resources being wasted. Just because the government are not doing their job properly, just because they are some people who want to stay in power to protect their own interest, so elections are held in such senseless way in a relative democratic society.
Being opposition party, we are financially constraint and even need to raise our campaign funding from the public. But the ruling party? they can give almost everything to every household during election.
For the voters, I still do not want to believe that voters only care about themselves, but it is irksome to know that when the government gave goodies such as basic infrastructures like street lamps, allocation for schools, temples, recreation parks etc. during election, they are sastified.
National issues such as racial inequality policies, undemocratic system, inequal opportunity in education etc,were raised in our campaign, but seems not convincing to voters.
Public forums were overhelmingly held every night, again, it is proven wrong if we take it as an indicator that the voters are giving out their votes as well.
Under the name of "development", we lost, slightly slashed their great majority votes. What kind of politics is this if our opponents are allowed to use the entire country's machinery, people's treasury to campaign?

Parliament
I went to the Parliament this morning. Those parliamentarians, so called "people's representatives"dressed gorgeously and chatted happily to each other. A lot of food in the banquet hall were to be thrown away.
There is a Chinese phrase goes:"In the mansions, rolling luxury allows wine and meat to go rotten away;On the streets, grinding poverty causes dead bodies to freeze and decay."
When I think of those homeless , indigenous people and people who are struggling for life and death everyday, such an ironic feeling rises.
Most of the time, I have to pretend to be deaf and dumb, blind and crippled. Most of the time, there is nothing I can do . I am blessed with a healthy body, but , what for?
